Loch Ken Trust Ranger Education Programme 2025

The Loch Ken Trust Ranger Education Programme is underway for 2025 with local primary schools taking part in a wildlife recording bio blitz and water safety activity session at The Crannog around Lochside Park and Carlingwark Loch.

Inspiring a love of all things nature in our young people is something we are very passionate about, and it is key that the future generations learn how to look after our environment for the years to come.

It has been great to see the young eco warriors enjoying nature and spending time in the outdoors.

A great number of diverse species have been recorded so far.

The afternoon sessions cover the dangers of tombstoning, promoted the Water Safety Code, and what to do if you see someone in trouble on the water. All young people get to try a mock rescue.

The sessions are funded by Drax, owners of the Galloway Hydro Scheme.

Thanks to South West Scotland Environmental Information Centre, Galloway Fisheries Trust and Castle Douglas Development Forum for the assistance
