Restoring and Enhancing Carlingwark Loch
Loch Ken Trust have received funding for this project from Inspiring Scotland’s Neighbourhood Ecosystem Fund.
The Neighbourhood Ecosystem Fund seeks to inspire, encourage, and enable communities to explore and deliver ambitious ecosystem restoration projects locally. It also seeks to raise awareness about the importance of local ecosystem restoration and address barriers faced by community-led efforts.
This Fund is supported by the Carman Family Foundation, the Scottish Government’s Nature Restoration Fund, which is managed by NatureScot, and others. Inspiring Scotland is administering this funding.
The project will include the following
- Water quality survey of Carlingwark Loch – carried out by Galloway Fisheries Trust (GFT)
- Invasive Non-Native Species (INNS) survey of Carlingwark Loch – carried out by GFT
- 4 x village hall talks to raise awareness on Invasive Non Native Species (INNS) – in partnership with GFT
- Creation of a base management plan for Carlingwark Loch – delivered by SRUC staff and students
- This fund will also cover £1,500 of professional fundraising support. This is to help raise additional funds for delivering the recommendations of the above studies. This does not necessarily have to be led by Loch Ken Trust and could be taken on by the community.
We are please to be working with the community on this project
