Ranger Volunteer Coordinator – Loch Ken Trust
Hello, I’m Rachael, and I’m really excited to have recently joined Loch Ken Trust as Ranger Volunteer Coordinator.

I’m someone who truly believes in the power of community — in people feeling welcomed, heard, and valued — and this role brings together so many things I care deeply about: nature, connection, inclusion, and meaningful volunteering. Being part of a place like Loch Ken, which holds so much natural beauty and community significance, feels incredibly special.
Supporting & Growing Volunteers
Volunteers are at the heart of Loch Ken, and supporting them is the most rewarding part of my role. I’m passionate about creating volunteering opportunities where people feel confident to get involved, supported to learn, and proud of the contribution they’re making — whether that’s their first time volunteering or they’ve been involved for years.
In my role, I work closely with rangers, staff, and partners to make sure volunteering is accessible, inclusive, and genuinely enjoyable. My focus is on building strong relationships, nurturing confidence, and helping people find a sense of belonging as part of the Loch Ken community.
Key areas of focus include:
- Coordinating ranger-led volunteer activities
- Supporting conservation and site-based projects
- Encouraging inclusive and accessible volunteering opportunities
- Helping volunteers build skills, confidence, and a strong connection to Loch Ken
I strongly believe that when people feel supported and valued, conservation outcomes thrive — and so do communities.
About Loch Ken Trust
Loch Ken Trust is a community-focused charity created to ensure that local people are at the heart of decisions affecting the Loch Ken area.
The Trust’s purpose is:
“To promote the natural, cultural and recreational assets of the Loch Ken area, for the benefit of the public and to support sustainable local communities.”
Loch Ken Trust is a registered Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO), Charity Number SC050211, approved by the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) on 9 June 2020.
Building on the work of the Loch Ken Advisory Management Committee, the Trust continues to develop a more inclusive, community-led approach to caring for this special place.
Outside of Work
Outside of work, I’m a busy human juggling life, family, and a deep love for community-led projects. I care deeply about people, fairness, and creating opportunities that support wellbeing and confidence, especially for those who may not always feel represented or included.
Looking Ahead
I’m really looking forward to getting to know volunteers, rangers, trustees, and the wider community — listening, learning, and working together to support existing projects and shape future opportunities.
For me, this role is about more than tasks or projects; it’s about people, connection, and creating spaces where everyone feels they belong. I’m excited to help strengthen volunteer pathways, champion inclusion, and play a part in ensuring Loch Ken is cared for with both environmental responsibility and community voice at its heart.
